Coach Bio
This season (2023-2024) Marco Cruz is the assistant coach for Roots Volleyball’s top 18s team – 18-1 Green.
Marco was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. He attended The Science Academy of South Texas (Class of 2009). Marco continued his education at the University of Texas Pan American and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2013. He then moved to Austin to attend St. Edward’s University to complete his MBA.
Previously, Marco was a volunteer assistant coach for UTPA and UTRGV (2009-2014). He also has middle school and high school coaching experience with Cathey Middle School and Memorial High School in McAllen, Texas. Additionally, Marco coached club volleyball for Sting Volleyball (2010-2011), Valley Venom Volleyball (2011-2017), and Roots Volleyball (2022-2023). He’s coached 12U to 18U teams.
Marco works for HorneLLP in disaster recovery government services as a Product Manager. He lives in Pflugerville with his wife and 2 fur babies (huskies). This is Marco’s second season coaching with the Roots Volleyball family.
