This season (2020-2021) Cara Stubbs is the assistant coach for Roots Volleyball’s sixth 16s team – 16 Oak and for Roots Volleyball’s top 13s team – 13 Under Armour Green.
Last season (2019-2020) Cara served as the assistant coach for 13 Under Amrour and 16 Grey. The previous season (2018-2019) Cara served as the head coach for 13 Under Armour. Under her direction, 13UA earned three 1st place medals and qualified for the Tour of Texas by going undefeated at the qualifier. The season before (2017-2108), Cara served as the head coach for 14 Under Armour. 14UA earned 3 medals and qualified for the Tour of Texas. 14 Under Armour also had an impressive showing at AAU Girls’ Junior National Tournament with a 10-1 record and 9th place finish. Stubbs served as the head coach for 12 Under Armour for the 2016-2017 season and served as the head coach for the top 14s team, 14 Green for the 2015-2016 season. 14 Green competed at the Windy City National Qualifier in Chicago, Illinois and the Lone Star Classic National Qualifier in Dallas, Texas. 14 Green earned 6 medals in competitive play throughout the season all over the state of Texas. In her first season she served as the top 12s coach for 12 Green (2014-2015), her team competed at the Lone Star Classic National Qualifier in Dallas, Texas and won 4 medals in regional play.
She moved to Austin from Dallas, Texas five years ago to accept a teaching position with Austin ISD. While coaching in the North Texas Region, Stubbs coached a 13s National team, which went on to play at USAV Girls’ Junior National Tournament (2012-2013). The following season, she served as the 12s National team head coach (2013-2014) and her team participated in tournaments throughout the country competing in the Open division.
Stubbs grew up in Deer Park, Texas and started playing club volleyball at the age of nine. She made multiple appearances at USAV Girls’ Junior National Tournament during her club volleyball career. She was a three-time varsity starter at Deer Park High School. The highlight of her high school career was leading the Lady Deer in a strong appearance at the Texas 5A State Tournament during her 2005 season. While trained as a middle hitter, she has played every position in volleyball, a true utility player. Stubbs graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a minor in Communications.
Stubbs has a true passion and love for the game of volleyball. She believes that it is a team sport, but everyone has a significant role to play. Her goal every year is to help each player find that role on the team, find their strength, and motivate them to push to give more.
When she is not in a volleyball gym, Cara is starting her 9th year teaching and is currently teaching Kindergarten with Cedar Park ISD. She can always make you smile with the things her students say in class. This is Stubbs’ 10th season coaching club volleyball and 7th season with the Roots Volleyball family.
