This season (2023-2024) Courtney Blanton is the head coach for Roots Volleyball’s fifth 14s team – 14-5 Pecan.

Courtney was born in Austin and started playing volleyball at 7-years-old for the City of Round Rock. She started her club career at 10. Courtney played through her 18U season with different clubs in the Austin-area, including Roots Volleyball (Texas Eclipse) from her 15U-16U seasons. Our positive gym culture is what Courtney most attributes to her return to coach with the Roots Volleyball family.

Courtney attended Stony Point High School. She was a standout setter and led her team to many strong finishes (2017 grad). Courtney continued her education and playing career at Bethune-Cookman University. She later transferred to Howard University and continued as their team manager after a career ending injury. Courtney assisted in practices, led tours of athletic facilities to prospective student-athletes and families, and organized team meals and events.

Following her time in Washington D.C., Courtney headed out to California to coach two years at Chula Vista Learning Community Charter High School in San Diego as the head girls’ varsity coach. CVLCC was 2x League Champions under her guidance. She also coach the 2x Player of the Year and earned herself Coach of the Year honors (2022).

Courtney previously coached one season of club for North Virginia Volleyball Academy (NVVA) as the top 14U head coach. While in San Diego she coached 2 seasons of club at Storm Volleyball Club as the head coach for their 17-2 and 15-2 teams. She also served as the led setter instructor for the club.

Courtney feels very fortunate to have had amazing opportunities to coach in different states at different age groups and levels. She is very passionate about volleyball and teaching the sport she fell in love with at a very young age. Courtney currently resides in Round Rock and this will be her first season coaching with the Roots Volleyball family.
