We are so happy to announce that Mikayla Gray, 2025 S/OPP, has verbally committed to the application process at Cornell University to continue her academic and volleyball career at the next level. Mikayla is a member of the Roots 171 Green team for the 2023-2024 season and has been a leader in this age group since her 13s year, earning two MVP honors in that time span. In addition to being a valuable member of the Roots Volleyball program, Mikayla is also a member of the Chaparral High School Varsity volleyball program, where she has earned multiple team and District honors.

Mikayla has grown tremendously as both a setter and an offensive threat over her time at Roots. “Mikayla is one of the most dynamic players that I have had the pleasure of coaching. To play such a valuable and leading role in multiple positions is not something that many athletes can achieve. Mikayla’s work ethic and success extends well beyond the court into the classroom – she is the true embodiment of a student athlete. I can’t wait to watch her continue to succeed at the highest level (both academically and athletically),” says Lindsay Thompson, 171 Green Head Coach and Recruiting Director. In addition to her athletic success, Mikayla has also found tremendous success in the classroom, serving as Vice President of the National Student Honor Society.

We are so excited to see all that Mikayla achieves at the next level!
