Coach Bio
This season (2023-2024) Trey Gonzales is the head coach for Roots Volleyball’s second 15s team – 15-2 Blue.
Trey was born in San Antonio, Texas, but grew up 30 minutes west in the very small town of Castroville. There, he attended Medina Valley High School and graduated in 2014.
At CHS Trey played baseball, tennis, ran track, and ran cross country all four years. He was a state qualifier in singles tennis and cross country his junior season. He also volunteer coached softball his junior and senior years.
After graduation, Trey attended Texas A&M University for 2 years. After a change in major, he enrolled at Texas State University and graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences – Fashion Merchandising. While at Texas State, he played club volleyball and was a practice player for the NCAA team. When Trey stepped away from playing club for work, he assisted the club team.
Trey is a Senior Compliance Analyst for a market research firm called GLG (Gerson Lehrman Group). He has been there almost three years and loves his job. His partner, Christopher, works there as well, but they actually met at an open play volleyball event for VBA (Volleyball Austin). They have been together for 4 years and live near the airport/Tesla factory with their fur baby, Denali. They love to travel, play volleyball, and try new restaurants in their free time. This will be Trey’s 1st season coaching with the Roots Volleyball family.
