Coach Bio
This season (2024-2025) Rob Taliaferro is the head coach for Roots Volleyball’s second 17s team – 17-2 Blue and the head coach for Roots Volleyball’s fourth 14s team – 14-4 Mesquite.
Last season (2023-2024) Rob was the assistant coach for 18-2 Blue. They narrowly missed qualifying at Lone Star 18s Classic National Qualifier (5th place) and made it to the gold bracket at Salt Lake City National Qualifier (9th place). They secured their JO bid at Lone Star Regionals (Freedom division). 18-2 Blue had a strong showing under Rob’s guidance at USAV Girls’ 18s Junior Nationals in Baltimore, MD.
The previous season (2022-2023) Rob was the head coach for 151 Green and secured a bronze medal at USAV Girls’ Junior Nationals (Patriot division) in Minneapolis, MN. The previous season (2021-2022) Rob was the head coach for 15 Under Armour Green, 17 Maple, and 14 Hickory. She obviously spent numerous hours in the gym with her three teams and saw tremendous player growth and team successes.
Rob’s led her 2020-2021 team (15 Under Armour Blue) to an impressive 5th place finish at the Big South National Qualifier in Atlanta, GA. In 2019-2020, Rob served as the head coach for 15 Black and the assistant coach for 17 Under Armour. Previously Rob served as the head coach for 14 HCI Black and the head coach for 16 HCI Black (2018-2019); head coach for 16 Black and the assistant coach for 13 Black (2017-2018); head coach for 15 Black (2016-2017); and head coach for 15 Black (2015-2016). Under her guidance her teams have earned numerous medals in competitive play throughout the nation.
Rob is an Austin native who played 4 years of varsity volleyball and 6 years of club volleyball on national teams. Rob attended college at the University of North Texas, where she played and coached for the University of North Texas Women’s Club Team. While earning her degree, Rob served as the assistant coach for Denton High School varsity volleyball team. She left Denton and returned to Austin in 2010 to finish her degree. Taliaferro graduated from Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and a minor in Sports Psychology. Rob also served as the Junior Varsity volleyball coach at Hyde Park High School for 2 seasons (2021-2023).
Rob has been full-time with Roots Volleyball as a Technical Director (2022-2023) and Operations Coordinator (2023-2024). This is Rob’s 11th season coaching with the Roots Volleyball family.
