Coach Bio

This season (2024-2025) Sherrie Owens is the head coach for Roots Volleyball’s second 13s team – 13-2 Blue.

Sherrie was born in Columbus, Ohio, but only lived there a brief time before moving to Texas.  She has also lived in Missouri, Virginia, and Michigan, but she’s been in Texas since 6th grade.  Sherrie went to two high schools – Northwest Academy and Brazosport High School.  She graduated in 1988 and numerous athletic accolades.

Sherrie earned a BS in Secondary Education from Baylor University and a MEd in Educational Technology from UT Brownsville.  She coached volleyball and basketball for 5 years at Mayde Creek High School in Katy and coached club volleyball for Katy Juniors Club.  Sherrie also coached at Covenant Christian School in Conroe, Texas for a few years.  When her children started playing sports, she decided to take a break from coaching to be available to watch them play.

Sherrie finds coaching to be fulfilling because she enjoys watching athletes develop in ability and in character.  She feels it is a privilege to partner with parents and invest in young ladies.  She is excited to get in the gym to start working with her team!

Sherrie is married to an awesome man who bought “Volleyball for Dummies” when they started dating. They live in the neighborhood where the Treehouse Gym is located.  Her daughter, Emma, played club all through school, and even went through extensive recruiting all over the country before deciding that she wanted to “just go to college.”  She is currently at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene.  Her son, Wes, just graduated from high school, and will also be heading to Abilene – to Abilene Christian University.  He also played club ball, so she can empathize with what it is like to have multiple children playing in different cities on the same weekend.

Sherrie is currently a high school teacher at Round Rock Christian Academy, and in her 25th year as a teacher. This year she teaches physics, chemistry, engineering, and digital design.  She has also taught biology, anatomy and physiology, environmental science, life science, and BCIS. This will be Sherrie’s 1st season coaching with the Roots Volleyball family.
