Coach Bio
This season (2024-2025) Melanie Meyer is the assistant coach for Roots Volleyball’s top 11s team – 11-1 Green.
Melanie is from a small town in central Texas where she was a four-year letterman in volleyball, basketball, track, and cross country and a three-year letterman in softball. During her senior volleyball season she was her team Co-Captain, Team MVP, All-District MVP, Super Centex 1st Team, All-State Second Team, and a member of the All-Star Team. She also excelled off the court graduating 4th in her class, earning an academic scholarship, and as a member of NHS.
After being introduced to the game of volleyball at the age of 10, it became her passion. She played outside hitter in high school and club for Mid Cities volleyball. She had to commute four hours round trip to attend club practices, but she was determined to play at the collegiate level.
Her dedication led to a full four-year athletic/academic scholarship to play volleyball at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. As a collegiate athlete, she played as an outside hitter, right-side hitter, and middle blocker. After graduating with her Bachelor’s in Kinesiology (Magna Cum Laude), she taught and coached in the Austin-area while attending night classes at Texas State University to obtain her master’s in education administration.
Once Melanie became an assistant principal, she took a break from coaching and started a family. Their oldest daughter decided to play volleyball in the spring of 2019, which is when Melanie stepped back in coaching. Since then, she has coached clinics, her daughters’ league teams, and club teams throughout the years. Melanie is also Gold Medal Squared certified.
Melanie is entering year five as a club coach. Under her guidance, her teams have consistently earned high finishes, including several notable achievements from last season: 1st place at Lone Star Warm Up (13U – 2024); 1st place at Season Finale (11U – 2024); 2nd place at CTPL #1 (13U – 2024); and 2nd place at AP Developmental #3 (11U – 2024).
Melanie has always had a deep love for all things sports. Combining this passion with her desire to help others was a natural choice for her. Coaching not only allows her to embrace the strategic and competitive aspects she enjoys but also enables her to make a meaningful impact on her athletes’ lives and pass on a genuine love for the game.
Melanie is the owner of Level Up College Consulting (launched in 2020) following her 16 years in public education (4 as a classroom teacher/coach and 12 as a high school AP). She currently resides in Cedar Park with her husband of 16 years, Daniel, and her 2 daughters (both play for Roots). This is Melanie’s 1st season with the Roots Volleyball family.
