Coach Bio
This season (2024-2025) Marco Cruz is the head coach for Roots Volleyball’s fourth 16s team – 16-4 Mesquite and the assistant coach for Roots Volleyball’s top 18s team – 18-1 Green.
Last season (2023-2024), Marco served as the assistant coach of 18-1 Green and led his team to a 3rd place finish (bronze medal) in Baltimore, MD at USAV Girls’ Junior Nationals (USA division). This finish earned an 8th medal for Roots Volleyball at a National tournament. 18 Green qualified in the Liberty division at Lone Star 18s Classic National Qualifier (2nd place) and then double qualified earning a USA bid at Salt Lake City National Qualifier (2nd place). They narrowly missed qualifying in the Open division at AVC 18s National Qualifier (5th place). The previous season (2022-2023) Marco assisted 17-3 Maple.
Marco was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. He attended The Science Academy of South Texas (Class of 2009). Marco continued his education at the University of Texas Pan American and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2013. He then moved to Austin to attend St. Edward’s University to complete his MBA.
Previously, Marco was a volunteer assistant coach for UTPA and UTRGV (2009-2014). He also has middle school and high school coaching experience with Cathey Middle School and Memorial High School in McAllen, Texas. Additionally, Marco coached 12U-18U club volleyball for Sting Volleyball (2010-2011) and Valley Venom Volleyball (2011-2017).
Marco works for HorneLLP in disaster recovery government services as a Product Manager. He lives in Pflugerville with his wife and 2 fur babies (huskies). This is Marco’s 3rd season coaching with the Roots Volleyball family.
