Coach Bio

This season (2023-2024) Jim Howard is the assistant coach for Roots Volleyball’s top 11s team – 11-1 Green.

Jim has been a Roots parent since 2017 when his daughter joined the club to play 11s. Jim has previously coached youth soccer.

Jim was born in Concord, California but was introduced to volleyball after moving to the east coast as a child. Jim was a three-year volleyball starter for Quince Orchard High School including an undefeated championship season his junior year. Jim played middle hitter at Maryland Volleyball Program and went to the 1993 USA Volleyball Junior National Championships in Kansas City.

Jim returned to California for college, graduating from UCLA with a degree in Political Science. He met his wife, Heather, in Los Angeles while developing Internet projects for movie studios. Together they have two children and moved to Texas in 2007. Jim works for TicketCity in Austin as Vice President of Operations.

This is Jim’s second season coaching with the Roots Volleyball family.
