Coach Bio

This season (2024-2025) Ana Gonzales is the Head coach for Roots Volleyball’s fourth 13s team – 13-4 Mesquite.

Ana was born in Austin and attended High School at James Bowie High School. She played club volleyball for Austin-area clubs, she was an outside hitter her freshman through junior seasons and was a defensive specialist her senior season. Ana graduated in 2016.

Following high school Ana joined the Army. She served from 2018-2023 as an Operating Room Specialist assisting during surgeries. During her time in the Army, she played for the MEDDAC volleyball team where we won 2nd place in the 2022 Commander’s Cup. Anytime she wasn’t working you could find her on the court. Ana earned numerous awards during her time in service including: Certificate of Achievement (x4), Army Service Ribbon, Non-Commissioned Officer, Professional Development Ribbon, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Army Commendation Medal.

When Ana looks back on the years she played, the memories always remind her of how impactful and motivational her coaches were in her life. Ana’s coaches always pushed her to reach her goals and believed in her when she didn’t believe in herself. Ana strives to do the same for her players.

Ana currently resides in south Austin and works at Hyde Park Surgery Center as a Surgical Technician. She is married and has 3 fur babies. This is Ana’s 1st season coaching with the Roots Volleyball family.
